A few weeks ago, I took a road trip with my friend as she was interviewing for residencies in Chicago. To save money, she booked an Airbnb in the city at a renovated 1895 Victorian mansion in Chicago.
The house was located a block from the Kedzie Green Line, was close to the conservatory, and less than 30 minutes to the center of the city.
I felt like I had stepped into another world, like technology didn’t belong and I needed to sit and read a good book.
We played some billiards, and it was so nice to just put our phones down and play a real game for awhile.
Our room was downstairs. We booked the “Egyptian Room.” It was cozy and had Amazon Prime and Netflix hooked up on the television.
That night we made dinner in the kitchen using ingredients we got at a nearby grocery store. The next morning, we woke up to a fully stocked kitchen for breakfast. We made coffee on an espresso machine, and bought some snacks on the iPad in the pantry.
The owner of the house talked to us over coffee in the morning, and even let us borrow his blow dryer in the morning.
We said goodbye to this beautiful home, and took off to sightsee.
The room in this cool victorian mansion can be found here.
